Badger Class is a mixed Key Stage 2 class. There are 11 children in Badger Class, from Year 3 to Year 6. Lynne Barker is the class teacher, accompanied by three teaching assistants.
In Badger Class we learn through a mix of whole class teaching, small group and 1:1 work. Our lessons are fun and engaging and have a practical focus but we are also learning to record our work in a more formal way in our books.
Every week we do a range of different lessons and activities. We have a high focus on speaking and listening, reading, writing, phonics and maths, both as discrete subjects and across other curriculum areas. We also do lessons such as Science, Art, Independence skills, Music, Computers, PE and The World Around Us. We aim to make lots of links across the curriculum to embed and develop our understanding of the concepts we are learning.
Some half terms we take part in cooking lessons, Forest Schools and swimming – which are lots of fun! We will tell you when these are happening.
Speaking and Listening, fine motor skills and sensory activities run through all areas of our curriculum. We also play lots of group games during our week; these really help us to follow instructions and practice our turn taking and listening skills.
We have relaxation and sensory and movement breaks throughout the day to help us regulate and focus our bodies and minds. Emotional regulation is key to our learning and we use Zones of Regulation to help us learn about different emotions and how our bodies feel.
In Badger class we have created a safe and happy learning environment that inspires the children to care for each other and also promotes a positive atmosphere, encouraging self-confidence and independence, in all aspects of life and learning.
Badger class have PE on Thursdays – please ensure your child has a PE kit in school that is labelled.
On Wednesday we have dance with Ms Rachel, an external provider and music with Ms Estelle from DPA.
We use Class Dojo to communicate with parents – please check this regularly for any updates.
