Beech Class

Beech Class is one of the Secondary classes at Halesbury School. There are twelve enthusiastic learners in Beech class. Miss Fereday is the class teacher, accompanied by three teaching assistants on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and four on a Wednesday.

Our focus is to build upon and extend the Pupils’s previous learning experiences through a structured, engaging, and fun approach. We are proud to promote an inclusive classroom environment that supports all communication needs. Our teaching encourages independence, confidence, and active participation in all aspects of school life. We celebrate every achievement, no matter how big or small and value each child’s progress. We are incredibly proud of our learners and always aim to inspire them to reach their full potential.

We focus on the individual needs of the learner and their preferred learning style. Learning is fun, engaging, and taught through termly topics that extend pupil’s understanding and experiences. We love to take learning beyond the classroom, using our school grounds, going on enriching trips, and welcoming visitors throughout the year.

A large part of our learning involves preparing the young people for adulthood and life in the big wide world.  During these sessions the pupils learn skills that will help them to become independent. For example, the pupils learn how to cook, clean, shop and manage their money.

Our class team works hard to create a happy and safe environment that promotes self-confidence, independence, and care for one another. Our classroom is thoughtfully organised to meet the diverse needs of all learners.

Physical Education takes place on Tuesdays. Specialist coaches deliver some PE sessions, there are boxing, golfing, dance and yoga coaches and some of these sessions take place outside of school. These coaches help to develop the children’s physical skills and boost their confidence. To help support the pupils they come into school in their PE kit on PE days.

Cookery takes place on a Friday morning. The pupils do both theory and practical cooking lessons and bring home any food that they make in lessons to share with their carers.
