Oak Class is made up of 11 learners and forms part of the Key Stage 3 (KS3) provision alongside Beech, Maple and Willow classes.
Oak Class is designed for learners who are beginning to access aspects of Pre-Entry Level and Entry Level learning, where this is appropriate to their age and stage of development. The curriculum focuses on developing meaningful skills that promote greater independence, participation and quality of life, preparing learners for increased involvement in everyday situations and future adulthood.
Learners in Oak Class typically require a slower pace of learning, with a significant emphasis on repetition, reinforcement and overlearning. Key concepts and skills are revisited regularly through a cyclical approach, allowing learners to consolidate understanding before progressing to more challenging outcomes.
Teaching takes place within small groups, supported by sufficient staffing to facilitate personalised learning and ensure that individual needs are met effectively. This enables learners to develop confidence, communication skills and independence within a structured and supportive environment. Whilst Maths, English and Science will be taught as discrete subjects the other curriculum areas will be; My Independence, Food Technology, World Around Us, PSHE, Creative Art, PE and Preparing for Adulthood.
Our Oak class team is led by Mrs Wood (Class teacher) and supported by 2 additional teaching assistants.
