Our classes

All of our classes place the child at the centre and focus on developing communication, independence and personal development to allow them to live a fulfilling life as possible beyond Halesbury.

Halesbury School supports pupils with ASD, complex communication and cognition and learning needs from Reception to Post 16 (age 4 – 19).

Our primary classes are named after animals, our secondary classes are named after trees, our specialist ASD classes are named after gemstones and our Post 16 is split into 2 groups. The cohort of each class is determined more specifically on the needs of our learners. As a result, apart from our EYFS class, most other classes will support pupils across different year groups.                           Individual EHC plans are used to inform provision and outcomes.

We have 3 routes through school from EYFS to Year 11 – Experience for Life, Choices for Life and Independence for Life.
The ‘Experience for Life’ route has an emphasis on establishing routines to have some independence, supporting functional communication (wants and needs) and being able to recognise and regulate emotions. There is a great emphasis on sensory learning.
The ‘Choices for Life’ route has emphasis on developing a greater level of independence. Through developing their listening, attention and communication skills pupils will learn new skills to make appropriate choices to live safe, happy and healthy lives. With support they will be able to access aspects of the community whilst recognising and regulating their emotions.
The ‘Independence for Life’ route has emphasis on more formal learning for pupils who are developing skills to be independent learners with the ability to transfer skills across different areas of the curriculum.

The links below show the class progressions that pupils can follow through the varying classes and how these fall into the different routes.

Halesbury Post 16 is a specialist provision for learners who have an Autism diagnosis and/or Complex Communication and Language difficulties. Our curriculum meets the needs of learners with low levels of cognition and learning. Their curriculum focuses on preparing for adulthood and gaining life skills that will support them moving beyond Halesbury. Curriculum areas follow the Ascentis programme and allow pupils to gain accreditations between pre-entry and entry level standard.

All of our classes place the child at the centre and focus on developing communication, independence and personal development to allow them to be the best version of themselves as a valued member of their community.

On each class page you can find updated information about your child's class – their timetable, what they are learning about, what they will be doing on each day, etc.
