Caterpillar Class

Welcome to Caterpillar Class!

In Caterpillar class we have 10 children, supported by a dedicated team of five members of staff. Our class teacher, Mrs Stuckey, works alongside three teaching assistants and a care assistant. Together, we create a nurturing and structured environment where every child is encouraged to learn, explore and succeed.

Our Daily Routine

We begin each day with our familiar morning routine, including our Good Morning song, the register, days of the week song and we complete our daily calendar. This helps children feel settled, confident, and ready for learning.

Our Learning

Our morning sessions focus on early communication, reading and number skills. We follow the Little Wandle: Rhyme Time programme for phonics, with a different rhyme each week, and deliver daily literacy and numeracy activities. Children enjoy a range of engaging experiences, including Attention Bucket sessions, stories, songs and rhymes.

Every child has individualised literacy and numeracy targets, which we work on daily through one-to-one adult-led activities through play-based learning opportunities. Following the EYFS approach, our curriculum is developed through purposeful play, supporting communication, independence, and each child’s personal next steps.

Our Afternoon Curriculum

Afternoon sessions focus on our wider curriculum, offering a rich variety of experiences designed to support the whole child. These include:

  • Cooking
  • My Independence
  • Understanding the World (covering Science, Geography, History and RE across the year)
  • Music
  • Art/Creative
  • PSHE
  • PE

We also offer a range of additional opportunities throughout the year:

  • Swimming sessions for six weeks in the Spring term
  • Forest School sessions in the Spring and Summer terms
  • Rhythm Time with Miss Vicky every Thursday afternoon, where children enjoy interactive, music-based activities
