Halesbury School welcomes contributions from employers, further education, training providers, voluntary organisations and employers in order to broaden and enrich our careers curriculum and provide diverse learning experiences for our pupils.

Rationale for Provider Access

In line with current statutory guidance (Jan 23), we believe that all students should have the opportunity to meet with a wide range of providers and hear about the opportunities and pathways that they offer. However, given the varied, and often complex, needs of our young people, it is important to ensure that these experiences are carried out in conjunction with partners who can provide relevant and meaningful experiences that are indicative of likely future pathways e.g. further education, specialist college, social care etc. Furthermore, we are also aware that, for some of our learners, the prospect of discussing transition can be distressing, therefore, we adopt a person-centred approach to provider access, whereby learners are supported to explore the potential pathways that are most relevant and meaningful to them, at the time that is right for them.

This rationale is also underpinned by the updated Gatsby Benchmarks which recognise that ‘young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their parents and carers may require different or additional information’.

Provider Access in Key Stage 3, 4 and 5

In each key stage, we will be looking to engage with partners and providers who will be able to support our young people with developing positive aspirations, an increased awareness of potential future pathways and provide the information needed to facilitate informed decision-making through relevant and meaningful experiences:

*Whilst some of these providers would not be recognised under current Provider Access Legislation, they are indicative of the likely destinations of our young people and so must be included, and prioritised, in order to support informed decision-making and promote empowerment.

 

Work Experience

Work experience placements, job shadowing opportunities and workplace visits provide students with the chance to be exposed to and learn about real workplaces. 

At Halesbury, we aim to provide our young people with a range of meaningful workplace experiences to help them to develop the skills, qualities and attitudes needed for the world of work. 

Work experience placements are highly personalised in terms of duration, location and level of support as we aim to organise experiences that reflect students’ strengths, interests and abilities. 

 

Getting Involved

We already have a number of events and activities planned throughout the school year which can be seen in our careers programme. However, we are always looking to increase the opportunities that our students have, therefore, we are happy to discuss any additional activities, visits or events that you may be able to provide.
